Just Some Info on Body Oddities

The human body does many things that we have no idea why it does it. Some of the things it does we don't even understand why it's doing it. I have done some research on some of the body oddities in attempt to help myself and others understand them a little bit better.

Twitches- The technical name for these uncontrollable spasms is "fasciculation". These spasms are causes from nerve abnormalities underneath the skin that are associated with that part of the muscle. Caffeine, lack of sleep, stress, or even healthy excersise can cause theses fasciculations to occur. They are possible in every place there is a muscle.

Ear Wax- Your ear is lined with glands that are simmilar to sweat glands except these excreate wax. these glands are called cerumen glands. The reason for this wax is to help trap dirt and any other thing that tries to get in one's ear. This wax for the most part usually makes it's way out of the ear naturally, but if your ear has a mass amount of wax, then you should consider cleaning it or calling a doctor.

Hiccups- Hiccups happen when the diaphragm starts to spasm and like every other spasm, it is impossible to voluntarily turn on. The diaphragm is a muscle at the bottom of the lungs and causes the lungs to intake a sharp breath of air whenever it begins to spasm. Hiccups are caused by raising the level of carbon dioxide in the blood and by stimulating the vagus nerve. Some different ways to get the hiccups are by holding your breath, breathing into a paper bag, drinking water through a wash cloth, pulling gently on the tongue, and rubbing your eyeballs.
